1986 Volkswagen Caravelle Type2 (T3) Devon Camper
Van
Tidy pop-top camper by Devon Conversions, new 1.9 petrol
engine fitted in 2015 and recon 4-speed 'box; just 61,005 miles
indicated
Looking like its ready to hit the North Devon coast for
some surf and fun, this 1.9 petrol four-cylinder VW Caravelle dates from April
1986 and shows just 61,005 miles recorded by its five former and current West
Country based owner who’s had this Devon Conversions example since 2013.
Equipped with the usual array of campervan goodies we see
a pop-top, gas cooker and fridge along with cupboard space, rock and roll bed
and external power socket. The colour scheme is a wonderfully period combination
of beige and brown that somehow work well together here.
Starting immediately and running well whilst we manoeuvred
it around for these shots, no surprise given the £5,685 spent by our vendor in
February 2015 at 50,845 miles on a new engine, reconditioned four speed gearbox,
new clutch and new starter following head gasket failure on the original 1,915cc
lump.
The history file also reveals other money spent on a
replacement fuel tank in March 2015, a Webasto petrol heater system and fitment
of a new leisure battery and voltmeter at 53,712 miles in September 2015 at a
cost of £1,610. In addition, a further £520 was spent in May 2016 on new sliding
door rollers and seals followed by new rear brake cylinders and shoes in
September 2019, and replacement clutch master and slave cylinder in December
2019.
The last lube service on record was in October 2019 and
included air and oil filters plus spark plugs. In addition, the history file
includes a VOSA MOT history print-out along with service record print-out, V5C
and 2 keys. The current MOT runs until July 2021 with one advisory for corrosion
to the sills and floor – pretty typical for a VW camper of this
era.
