1957 Morris Minor Convertible

Genuine factory convertible; family owned from new until last year; very smart example ready for summer fun

The original 1948 Minor - or poached egg as Lord Nufflield delightfully called it - initially complete with side-valve engine, was a sedate performer but, thanks to delightful handling and steering,  was always a great car to drive. The Minor came in several variants including two and four-door saloons, a wood-framed Traveller estate, a panel van and a pick-up. Most glamorous and sought-after of all was the convertible Tourer model which offered top-down motoring at a budget price. All models were gradually but subtly improved over time, gaining a one-piece windscreen, better heating and an engine that grew from a 27bhp 918cc sidevalve unit to a 1,098cc ohv unit that produced 47bhp and could propel the car to a top speed of 77mph.

This smart little Tourer came into the vendor's hands in 2021 from single family ownership from new. Originally purchased by Mr Lee from Thetford, it was passed to his daughter in Bury St Edmunds when he passed away and still records just two previous keepers on the V5C.

There are a few bills and invoices going back along with six old MOTs, its current ticket expiring in October this year - although it is of course exempt from such things. There is also a driver's handbook on file.

It has had work done over the years and we are unclear when it was repainted maroon, the V5c showing it as blue, with evidence of that in the boot and engine compartment. It has been well done and is nice and presentable.

Clearly much loved, it sports an array of aftermarket guages and has that general air of a carefully owned vehicle.

Supplied as a genuine factory convertible, it is ready for summer use.
