1989 Citroen 2CV6 Speciale
Just two owners and
67,000 miles from new; recently restored and converted to Beachcomber spec with
many new parts; excellent service history; driven 100 miles to the sale; a
lovely car all round
This lovely 2CV6 Speciale was bought new in Brussels in
September 1989 by a Dr Bertolini and was ordered in white as a right-hand drive
model. He used it to commute from Belgium to his home his home in Oxfordshire,
keeping it for 17 years and always getting it serviced at his local Oxford
Citroen dealer, the service book showing no fewer than 16 stamps up to 56,460
miles in July 2006 when the book runs out of pages.
In December 2006 it was acquired by a Welsh lady in whose
name it has remained ever since. Old MOTs show that it was in regular use until
2010 when it was put into storage with around 66,000 miles on the clock. In late
2019/early 2020 the car was extensively restored to its current condition with
bills on file for around £2,800.
This included converting the car to France 3 spec, this
being a limited edition model that was produced in 1983 to celebrate Citroen
sponsoring France’s entry to the America’s Cup yacht race and which was also
marketed in the UK as the Beachcomber. Completely standard under the skin, it
had a special blue and white colour scheme both inside and out with chrome
headlights and hub caps and a France 3 sticker on the boot lid.
Genuine Citroen parts were used throughout and included a
new Beachcomber interior with new seat covers and seat foams, new door cards,
sun visors, steering wheel and soft top. The bodywork was restored as necessary
with new rear wings and floor sections, new chrome headlamps, door mirrors,
front and rear bumpers and France 3/Beachcomber graphics. A new Citroen gearbox
was also fitted, the old one being included in the sale although it will need
attention.
The wheels were all refurbished and fitted with new chrome
hub caps and new Michelin tyres (including the spare). The car was also treated
to a full service and fitted with electronic ignition, flying through its MOT in
May this year with no advisories recorded. It comes with all its original
handbooks in the original Citroen wallet.
Affectionately known as Sergeant Bilko, this freshly
restored and serviced Beachcomber-lookalike is in very good order throughout,
has covered only 67,000 miles in the hands of two owners and was driven 100
miles to the sale. Given the way that 2CV values have climbed of late, it looks
great value at the sensible guide price suggested.
