1968 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller
Late model Series V; considerable history back to 1971; from long term ownership
Dating from November 1968, this ADO59 Series V Morris Minor 1000 Traveller is finished in Trafalgar Blue and hails from the final era of production under British Leyland. It features the 1,098cc A-Series which gives a useful 48bhp and a stronger gearbox which was fitted to the later cars along with larger front (drum) brakes.
This example comes to us from long term, 26 year, ownership and presents well for its age. The Ash frame shows some signs of deterioration, but also some evidence of remedial work with newer timber spliced in and there are scuffs to the bodywork as visible on the images.
Starting and running well, the Morris moved around with ease (once we used the right key of the 3) for these pictures and video and shows 14,174 miles (which we assume to be at least 114,174 miles given its age). The interior is cosy, although we did notice the driver’s seat base requires re-stuffing- a really easy job on these later 1000s.
The history file includes the V5C recording 3 former owners, passport to service showing the car was supplied by Caffyns of Kent & Sussex containing 15 old stamps dating from October 1968 to August 1975 at 48,801 miles. A 2nd passport to service on file contains a further stamp dated January 1976 at 51,000 miles and hand-written confirmation of a 12,000mile service in April 1986 at 87,464 miles. A 3rd service booklet shows another 2 stamps dated 1976 and 1979 at 54,165 miles and 64,650 miles. We also find the Driver’s Handbook, original purchase order showing the car (when a year old) was sold to a Mrs J Phillips of Pulborough, Sussex at a cost of £650 in October 1969.
The file also includes some 20 old MOT certificates dating from 1971 at 27,382 miles up to 1997 at 13,695 miles plus a considerable selection of bills old, and recent dating back to at least 1971 including for a new head gasket at 72,651 miles (undated). The Minor has no current MOT and does not look to have had an MOT since at least 2006 when online digital records date.
An ideal example to use and improve with lots of history. It has lots of potential and looks most appealing at the reasonable guide.
