Description
1978 Volkswagen Bay Window
Transporter/Camper
Interesting history; imported from the
Lebanon in 2019; new drivers door and windscreen repair section; recent engine
overhaul; Touareg seats; perfect for budget lockdown holidays
The
owner of this 1978 tin-top bought it from a relative in the Lebanon where
we believe it had lived all of its life. Before it was put on the boat, it
had a new driver's door and a lower screen section fitted and subsequent
paintwork.
Since arrival in the UK in March 2019, it has been UK
registered VRL 887S and the vendor has set about fitting an interior to suit his
family needs.
He fitted a set of front and rear seats from a Touareg
which are trimmed in cream leather. The rear seats push forwards on runners and
fold flat to form a double bed. He got round to installing some camping comforts
such as a fridge unit, but not hooking them up so there is detail work to
complete.
The engine was also puported to have been overhauled before it
arrived in the UK and it certainly runs and drives, with all gears selecting.
The brakes need a good pump, so driving it home is probably not on the
cards. There are areas that could be tidied up and this is reflected
in the modest catalogue estimate - you don't find many running bay-windowVWs for
less than our estimate...
The paperwork consists of a current V5C,
Historic VW club dating letter and a photocopy of the Lebanese registration
document.
This interesting old bus must have a thousand stories to
tell...if only it could talk.
