1990 Lotus Elan SE Turbo

Smart 1.6 litre SE Turbo example showing just 78,665 miles with super interior - in storage for the past 10 years and ready for some gentle recommissioning; fresh MOT

Dating from June 1990, its hard to believe these stylish little Elan M100’s are 30+ years old now, so modern is the shape.

Finished in white and sat on its original wheels, this Elan SE Turbo comes from 10 year ownership but has spent most of that time in storage. Despite that, the car looks well, particularly inside, the interior being very tidy with its two-tone grey and red leather.

The bodywork looks clean and tidy, with just some minor lacquer lift/peel on the soft top cover, on which the soft-top sits when erect.

Starting promptly and running well as we moved it around on site, the vendor tells us the car would likely benefit from a gentle recommissioning given the time spent in storage.

Under the bonnet, we find the Isuzu-Gemini sourced 1.6 litre DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder petrol engine with IHI turbocharger which develops 162Bhp – more than enough this give this lightweight 2-seat sports car exciting performance, with power being put to the road via five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.

The car shows just 78,665 miles with less than 20 miles covered in the last four years and only 250 since 2012, but the car did however pass its recent MOT in July this year with seven advisories (enter the reg at check-mot.service.gov.uk) but nothing to cause concern.

The history file includes the V5C revealing nine former owners, the handbook with service section showing the car was supplied new by Moorland Motors Ltd of Blackpool and some 14 stamps, inc. PDI, the last in August 2001 at 65,465 miles by HMM Group Lotus & Caterham Specialists of Salisbury.

Furthermore, the file also includes 16 old MOTs and a selection of bills for parts and maintenance including a recent £293 spend on reconditioning of the head lamp motors earlier this month. The other bills on file are all more historic from pre-2003.

Ready for some gentle recommissioning and a good service, this is a pretty car in Monaco white with a lovely interior, lower miles and turbocharged engine. Lots to like.
