Dating from September 1999 this R129 generation of Mercedes SL comes to us in SL320 guise and hails from the later period of production, being a 2^nd face-lift example, post MY1998.

Finished in Brilliant Silver, the car boasts the desirable and expensive (at the time) optional extra of a glass panoramic removal hard-top (with black Mohair soft-top underneath) and sits upon its  original 17” five-spoke alloy wheels.

Under the bonnet, as a 2^nd face-lift example, we find the 3.2 litre M112 18-valve V6 petrol engine which develops 221bhp driving the rear wheels via five-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, we find the cabin light and airy, courtesy of the removable glass panoramic hardtop with heated rear screen, light grey leather interior with electric seat operation for both, Burr walnut trim, electric steering column, electric windows, two-stage heated seats, digital climate control with AC, half-timbered steering wheel, electric folding mirrors, original Mercedes Audio10 radio/Cassette player, cassette storage and electric Mohair soft-top roof. The car also comes with the hard-top stand pictured.

We did note during photography the driver’s door check strap is fractured on the driver’s door which will need attention in the near future before it breaks away completely.

The history file includes the V5C revealing just two former keepers to the current owner of 17 years, the owner’s pack and service book recording five stamps – the last of which was in September 2004 at 62,170 miles.

The file also includes some invoices including more recently, a full service in January 2022 and new battery costing £516 and replacement water pump, drive belt and coolant temperature sensor also in January of this year costing £378. A new OS window regulator was also fitted in 2016.

The current MOT is valid until January 2023 recording no advisories, with a further 16 old MOTs on file to back the modest mileage of 116,406 miles up.

Ready to be enjoyed with the desirable removable factory hard-top this smart SL looks like good value for money at the guide suggested.
