Description
1990 Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth
Hidden in a
garage for 14 years before being craned out over the house; beautifully
unmolested example showing just 77,171 miles with considerable recent
recommissioning works undertaken - Investment Alert!
Dating from May 1990 this outstanding Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth
has an interesting story, having been quite literally locked away for some 14
years as a result of some very obscure antics with the former
keepers.
The former owner, purchased the car in
1998 and used it sparingly until one day popping it in the garage. He and then
proceeded to have some extension work carried out on their home in 2007. The extension work ended up blocking the
access to the garage in which sat the Cosworth…..without either the owner or the
builders thinking to extract the car.
There the car remained, showing just
77,077 miles under a cover for the next 14 years until it was sold to our
current owner in September 2021 who came up with a bold plan to extract the car
which included removal of the garage roof and utilising a commercial crane to
lift the car out of the garage and up over the roof tops of the surrounding
houses and onto a waiting truck.
Incredible as
this sounds, its real and documented on a USB memory stick included within the
history file and on some physical photos within the file.
The car remains in super order having been stored all that time in
a dry garage under cover, the only non-standard part we’ve noted being the
bigger bore exhaust, which is pretty common to find.
Since being ‘exhumed’ the car has been treated to some careful
re-commissioning which is detailed within the file and included draining and
replacement of all fluids, replacement of all filters, replacement of the
cambelt, tensioners and water pump, replacement of all auxiliary belts, new
spark plugs, new fuel pressure regulator, new radiator, overhaul of the front
and rear brake callipers, new brake pads and discs all round, new flexi hoses,
fitment of five new tyres, refurbished wheels, replacement fuel tank,
replacement fuel pump and filter, new headlining in correct material,
replacement of the ABS ECU and a refurbishment of the original radio cassette
player.
The car is a wonder to behold, looking
very good in Flint grey, sat on its original wheels. The car started promptly
and ran well, feeling tight and lithe as we moved it around for these shots and
video, the turbo pulling properly under load.
The history file for this car includes, as mentioned the photos and
USB telling the remarkable tale, the V5C revealing five former keepers, the
owner’s manual, old tax discs, spare key, note from vendor detailing recent
works as referenced and selection of invoices for parts and works undertaken.
The current MOT is valid until September 2023 and recorded no
advisories.
A most exciting and interesting
Sapphire Cosworth with a proper story and appealing miles (77,171) in almost
stock spec that gained huge interest at the couple of local mixed marque
shows attended this summer.
One to buy, keep, cherish and enjoy for
sure.
