1994 Mercedes-Benz SL320
(R129)
Earlier example in red showing just 88,200 miles
boasting a clean MOT until October 2023 and 18 service stamps
following eight years in storage 2013-2021
Supplied new by Eyebury Motors Ltd of Peterborough in May 1994 this
R129 series of SL comes to us in SL320 guise and is finished in Imperial Red,
with body-coloured removable factory hard-top and black Mohair hood living
underneath the car sits on its original 16inch eight-hole alloy
wheels.
Under the bonnet, we find the 3.2 litre
M104 straight-six engine developing c.220bhp driving the rear wheels here via
optional five-speed automatic transmission (four-speed auto was
standard).
Inside the cabin, we find mushroom
leather interior with typical walnut trim, electric windows, electric seats with
two-stage heating, cruise control, AC, heated rear screen, wind deflector and
rear seats. The hard-top and
soft-top are both operated electronically, but we were unable to coax the
hard-top off – which often happens when these SL’s have been sat in storage for
long periods of time so we have been unable to see the condition of the
soft-top.
The car was driven to us by the
vendor from Cardiff, although since arrival we have been unable to operate
the driver’s seat or window and the car has leaked oil from around the rear diff
area.
The history file includes the V5C
revealing five former keepers, the owner’s pack and service book recording an
impressive 19 stamps, the last in January 2013 at 86,235 miles – the car
currently showing 88,263 miles having spent eight years in storage between
2013 and 2021, as reflected by the vehicle’s MOT history (which does show a
mileage discrepancy in 2007, where it looks like it was noted
incorrectly).
An interesting car with scope to
recommission into a nice example given its time off the road.
