1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo (S2
MkIV)
Increasingly appealing Fast Ford showing just 61,000
miles with history back to the early 90s and original bill of sale - Investment
Alert
Supplied new by Bristol Street Motors
(Bromley) Ltd of Kent in October 1989 this exciting Fast Ford is of course a
MkIV Escort RS Turbo Series 2, finished in Diamond White and sat upon its
original 15” alloy wheels and looking to be in remarkably standard order
externally with a good paint finish.
Under the
bonnet, we find the typical 1.6 litre CVH four-cylinder engine with single
Garrett turbo charger which in standard tune, when new, produced 132Bhp and
180NM of torque driving the front wheels via five-speed manual
transmission.
On opening the bonnet, its clear
the car has had some after market bits fitted including a Pace Products alloy
intercooler, K&N air filter, blue Samco Sport hose kit, alloy catchment
tank, bigger bore exhaust and Bailey dump valve which may have helped release a
few more horsepower.
Inside, we find the usual
grey Recaro sports seats, electric windows, glass sunroof, original Ford
radio/cassette player, electric mirrors and heated rear screen. Unusual to find is also a complete and
intact rear parcel shelf.
The car shows 61,965
miles which we believe to be 161,965 looking at the history file the car
presents well and was driven up to us by the vendor. We have noticed however the
car has been losing coolant from the water pump area with some drips present on
the floor where it had been parked so this may need attention before driving it
home.
The history file includes the V5C
revealing seven former keepers, an old style V5, the original purchase invoice
with the salesman’s card still stapled to it including photo of the man
himself.
In addition, the file also includes
some original correspondence between the first owner and the Ford dealer,
original Warranty information, Scorpion alarm detail, as well as a host of
invoices for parts and maintenance carried out back to the early 90s, old tax
discs and some 18 old MOTs as well as the most recent which expired in July 2022
with no advisories.
Invoices of note include
for a replacement camshaft, followers, oil pump and big end bolts in 2001, a
stainless exhaust, white dial kit in 2013, ali radiator in March , Brembo brake
pads, Pagid brake master cylinder and Contitech timing belt kit in April 2021
with a note suggesting fitment at 61,817 miles on 25th April 2021
along with a period sales brochure.
An exciting
opportunity to bag what looks like a nice tidy example with a monstrous history
file.
