Superb results at Brightwells’ Winter Wine Auctions

Brightwells’ Wine Department rounded off 2020 in style as their Winter Series of Wine, Port, Champagne and Whisky Sales produced record results.

An ultra-rare bottle of The Macallan 50 year old Malt Whisky was the star of the show as a flurry of late bidding took the final hammer price to £69,817.

Over 800 lots were offered over the three-sale series, with prices for Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone being particularly strong. Over 200 cases of fine Bordeaux attracted worldwide interest, with registered bidders from 11 countries joining battle over the internet. 12 bottles of Chateau Latour 1986 sold for £4236 and the top Rhone in the sales was 6 bottles of Chave Hermitage 1990 (£5,082).

Vintage Port is always popular as Christmas approaches and this year was no exception: 3 cases of Cockburns from the legendary 1963 vintage sold for £3,630 and 6 Quinta do Noval 1960 sold for £726.

Brightwells will hold their next set of Wine Port, Champagne and Whisky Auctions on 25th February and 4th and 11th March 2021. For information on buying or selling Wines and Spirits at auction please contact Paddy Shave on 01568 619719 or paddy.shave@brightwells.com
