X513JOH LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2
AUTOBIOGRAPHY
One of only two made;
looking splendid in Damson red metallic; running beautifully with the V8
burbling; full seven-seater with many special features; a must for the
collector
No ordinary Discovery, this factory prototype was used to
assess the viability of offering an Autobiography service to Discovery (and
Freelander) buyers.
One of just two produced, this one in manual form, it
came with a V8 petrol and was first registered on 7th November 2000. Featured in
a launch press pack, it is thought that it would have cost a whopping £62,000 if
sold commercially - well into P38 Range Rover territory.
Sadly, SVO's
(Special Vehicle Operations) feasability study didn't sit well with Land Rover's
new owners Ford and the project was cancelled, believed due to a lukewarm
response in the US market. In any case the two Disocoverys were let out into the
civilian market and this one has clearly been much loved and enjoyed ever
since.
Now with 166,000 on the clock (8,500 per year), it has had six
owners including Land Rover and the current keeper, who has religiously
maintained it for the last 6 years at Guy Salmon in Northampton.
We are
advised that a replacement engine was fitted at 112,303 miles (with uprated
top hat liners) and the only elements which deviate from its original equipment
are parking sensors and the DVD screens in the rear which replaced the original
(and missing) VHS kit - well you would wouldn't you!
It comes complete
with a BMIH certificate, launch press release, a certificate to show it took
place in the Guiness Book of Records Land Rover Parade at Billing in 2018 and a
feature of the car in LRO from December 2015.
An important piece of Land
Rover history and in fine fettle, this is one for the serious Land Rover
collector.
