1984 SS Jaguar Replica
Only 17,800 miles from
build by Classic Roadsters of Dakota; Ford Mustang 2.8 V6 engine and auto box;
GRP body; SS looks at an affordable price!
Classic Roadsters Ltd of Fargo, North Dakota, began making
kit cars in 1978, perhaps their best-known model being the Sebring, a Healey
3000 replica. They also made the Marlene (Mercedes SSK), the Duchess (MG TD) and
the Duke (SS100 Jaguar), all with GRP bodies and a wide range of mechanical
underpinnings. Over 5,000 kits were sold before the firm changed hands in the
1990s.
This Duke SS100 Replica was built in 1984 and we are told
that the running gear comes from a Ford Mustang II with a 2.8 V6 engine and
automatic transmission. We are also told that the 17,800 miles on the odometer
is the genuine mileage covered from build. Riding on wire wheels shod with
whitewall tyres, it also has dual spare wheels and tyres mounted either side of
the bonnet. Finished in ivory with brown wings, it has brown leather seats and a
matching brown soft top with side screens.
Not yet UK registered, it comes with a US Certificate of
Title and a NOVA reference showing that all duties have been paid so getting a
V5C should be straightforward using the requisite DVLA form.
Appearing to be in generally good order throughout, it
started promptly and ran nicely as we moved it around for these photos. With all
the looks of an SS100 but at a fraction of the price, it is sure to turn heads
wherever it goes and will no doubt fool most of the people most of the
time.
