Description
1947 Morgan F-Super
Sporty four-cylinder
three-wheeler Morgan; great fun; original car in regular use; belived one of 92
post-war F-Supers made; two-seater model with bonnet louvres and cycle
wings
Introduced in 1933, the F-series Morgans used a clever
Z-shaped chassis which supported the independent suspension up front and curved
in at the back to support its three-speed gearbox cum bevel
box.
Initially sold as a family four-seater (F4) and two-seater (F2), an
F-Super joined the range in 1937 which had sportier lines thanks to cycle wings
and a louvred bonnet.
They offered excellent performance from their 933cc
side-valve Ford engines, thanks to minimal weight and excellent road
holding - to drive a Morgan three-wheeler today is still a revelation in
terms of comfort and stability, its single wheel being at the right end of the
car!
Production carried on until 1952, although by then output was very
limted as the firm had carved its niche making sports cars rather than vehicles
for the family motorist and they were busy with 4/4 and Plus 4
production.
This 1947 model comes with little in the way of history, but
came into the vendor's hands in 2016 when he imported it from Ireland. He has
used it regularly and improved it along the way, fitting an aluminium radiator
and electric fan and generally getting it to run as it should.
There are
numerous storage areas under and behind the seats and it comes with a suitcase
rack for overnight trips. Running and driving with some zest, there are a few
cosmetic jobs which would transform the car with relative ease.
Only on
offer due to an expanding family and an F4 on the horizon, this car offers a lot
of smiles per mile and looks good value at the suggested guide price - F-Supers
being particuarly thin on the ground.
