1989 Land Rover 110 with Penman Trailer
Handy
bit of kit with a fresh MOT and ready for work; no VAT on hammer
price
This 1989 Land Rover 110 was delivered new to the Singapore
Armed Forces and appears to have been used as some sort of a communications
vehicle.
The 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated diesel engine is fitted with
an alternator the size of Europe - producing 24 volts and presumably enough
oomph to power all sorts of comms equipment.
The odometer shows under
29,000kms (18,125 miles) although we have no history of its time overseas so
have no idea whether this is correct or not - although such low mileages are
certainly not uncommon with such Military vehicles.
The hot climate has
been kind to the structure, the chassis and bulkhead remaining rock solid. The
bodywork has had fresh paint at some point recently and there is plenty of it in
true Military tradition.
It could do with a pair of new batteries - and
some attention to the glow plugs we suggest, but was running and driving around
the site as it should. Refinement is notable by its absenese, but it has
plenty of practicality and an indestructablity which inspires
confidence.
Road registered D256 BSA in 2019, it carries an MOT which
expires in March 2022 with just one minor advisory (brake pipe corroded, covered
in grease or other material rear (rear axle)).
This tough old truck has
a NATO tow hitch and is being sold with an ex UK army Penman trailer. These
are beautifully made items and share many cross-over components with the Land
Rover tow vehicle such as wheels and disc brakes. The tub is made from
stainless-steel and, like its tow vehicle, is virtually
indestructable.
The other bit of good news is that the owner of this
combo has kindly covered the VAT on your behalf, so there will be no VAT on the
hammer price.
It has spent most of lockdown sitting in an underground
carpark in Notting Hill in London and the vendor advises us that given its age,
it could potentially be enjoying its retirement from active service in the
United States where these old Landys are highly sought after as they were never
imported in period.
Starting a new business or simply needing a
useful bit of kit around the farm? This unit would solve a multitude of problems
and all for about the same price as a quadbike and trailer! This could be the
only vehicle you ever need to buy...
