1966 MG Midget MkII
Extensively restored in
the late 2000s; good looking little runabout
First registered in
1966, this little Midget MkII, like so many others, has had its fair share of
owners over the years but still presents very well.
Although there is no
documentary evidence from the early days, it appears to have had extensive
work done to the bodywork in 1991/92. Invoices on file total approximately
£2,000 from this period, which includes various welds and repairs to the body, a
new bonnet and a reconditioned gearbox. A bill of sale and an MOT on file
indicate it was sold soon after the work was done for £2,750.
Used and
maintained regularly by its new lady owner, it was then sold again shortly
before 2000, when the speedo started to approach the 100,000 mark. It finally
reached this milestone in 2007 when it appears to have been rewarded with a
welding birthday and a photo shoot! Included within the file are these
photographs showing very detailed repairs to the body and paintwork during this
time, but no associated invoices unfortunately.
It was regularly put
through an MOT thereafter until November 2020, its latest showing no
advisories, which should give potential bidders some confidence as to
its road worthiness.
The MKII Midget is perhaps the best of its
type, gaining semi eliptic rear springs, wind up windows and a bit more pep over
the MkI, but retaining the purity of design inherited from its Austin-Healey
sibling....lost in the later cars. Nice ones are now few and far
between.
