1979 Vanden Plas 1500

Period JPS livery; chunky gold alloys; current MOT; get yourself noticed!

In 1974 British Leyland launched an Allegro-based car that was simply called the Vanden Plas 1500. It replaced the Vanden Plas Princess 1300 and it was the first Vanden Plas since the marque was established in 1960 not to be referred to as a 'Princess'.
Cost constraints dictated that only the bonnet could be altered, and the designers at Vanden Plas took their inspiration from the Daimler Double-Six grille. On the inside, it was well appointed in the 'British country house' style, with a walnut dash, rear picnic tables, leather seats with reclining backrests and extra sound insulation.
First registered in June 1979, this Vanden Plas 1500 certainly stands out from the crowd with its period JPS livery and chunky gold alloy wheels. Sadly there is no history with the car other than a V5C indicating four former keepers and an MOT which runs until June 2022 so we can’t really tell you much about it.
As you can see in the photos, it has a couple of rust scabs appearing here and there and the interior is somewhat scruffy but it seems to run and drive fine. A look at the MOT history online shows that it has been in regular light use, clocking up some 5,500 miles since 2006, the odometer currently showing 71,376 miles. A real eye-catcher, with a nice number plate, it looks like a lot of fun for little outlay.
