Description
1971 Triumph TR6 PI
Owned for the last 20
years; galvanised chassis; owned and restored by gargage proprietor; used
on many trips to Scotland and Europe
This TR6 was
first registered in September 1971 and has been owned by our vendor since 2004
when he purchased it from a friend of his who had completely stripped it
with the aim of restoring it.
At the time of
taking it all apart, the speedo showed 65,000 which was thought to be correct.
The chassis was strengthened and galvanised, while the engine was reconditioned,
a fast road camshaft fitted, a modified cylinder head and uprated
driveshafts added along with wheel bearings all round.
The gearbox
was also reconditioned with an uprated overdrive. The vendor fitted an alloy
fuel tank and radiator with an electric fan. Inside, a smart looking dash
was fitted with all new clocks and outside we can see the sports exhaust and
funky chrome wire wheels.
Our vendor has run a
garage for some time and has owned more classic cars than you can count, not to
mention worked on many more. Time has come to hang up his spanners and take
life at a slightly slower speed. There are bills for most/all of the parts he
has bought but there are no invoices for his time doing the work. The bills for
the parts alone come to almost £18,000!
In
2010, the rebuild was finished and after fitting a tow bar the next day,
he hooked up his classic trailer tent (the next lot) and set off on a Scottish road trip
with his girlfriend (now wife!).
As mentioned,
all the work done is recorded in the file and it has travelled regularly
to Scotland and driven to Le Mans a number of times too. Now showing 6,120
miles on the relatively new speedo, it was driven to us for the auction
and has an MOT until March 2023.
