1980 MGB Roadster
Only 196 miles from new;
recently recommissioned with many new parts; what a cracker!
This remarkable MGB
Roadster has covered only 196 miles from new and had just one owner until our
vendor acquired it earlier this year.
The Heritage Certificate
shows that it was built in April 1980 finished in Snapdragon Yellow with a
silver and grey cloth interior, overdrive and Rostyle wheels. The supplying
dealer was Gibbs of Feltham and the registration number was issued in North West
London.
The miles were covered very early in the life of the car and it has
never been submitted for an MOT test, the last tax disc having expired in
October 1980. The V5C confirms one previous owner and the car is classified as a
Historic Vehicle so it is now MOT exempt and free to tax, being currently on
SORN.
We are told that the car had been stored in a dry, dark garage for
41 years when our vendor acquired it. He has fully recommissioned the car, as
detailed by various invoices on file. This included removing the engine from the
car and rebuilding it with new piston rings, 8 new valves and stem seals, plus
all new gaskets and seals. Other work
includes:
Gearbox, differential and overdrive:
Replaced all fluids, ran
up to operating temperature, replaced all fluids again. Checked overdrive
operation.
Cooling system:
Replaced radiator, water
pump, thermostat, hose clips, alternator belt; checked heater matrix; new
antifreeze.
Fuel system:
Replaced fuel tank, sender
unit, filters, fuel pump; cleaned and reset
carburettors.
Braking
system:
Replaced front brake discs
and rear wheel cylinders; cleaned out rear drums.
Electrics:
Fitted new alternator,
spark plugs and leads, 2 x relays; replaced steering lock and sourced two sets
of keys.
New wiper blades were also fitted along with a new walnut dash and
a new stainless steel exhaust system including new clamps. The exterior panels
were professionally repainted in the original Snapdragon Yellow, the paintwork
in the boot and the engine bay being original. The hood and the tonneau cover
are original and still look virtually new. Even the tyres are original and still
look as good as new but obviously, given how old they are, it would be wise to
replace them before driving the car any distance. A period sales brochure and an
owner's handbook are also included.
In super condition
throughout and running beautifully as we have moved it around on site, this MGB
Roadster is about as close as you can get to that hallowed ‘new old car’
experience. Your only dilemma will be whether to actually use it or just stash
it away as an investment...
