1937 Rolls-Royce 25/30 Hooper Limousine
Older
replacement head and block; good Dunlop tyres; driven 50 miles to the sale; lots
of early history
This impressive 25/30 was delivered from the
factory as a chassis to be fitted with Hooper Limousine coachwork. It
was first registered CAA 397 in April 1937.
In 1957, it was taken in Part
Exchange by Hoopers Coachbuilders who approached Rolls-Royce Ltd's Willesden
office for a report on its previous service history. This was provided in
considerable detail, listing all service work and mileages from 1937 until
November 1956 by which time it had covered 78,325 miles.
It joined the
vendor's fleet back in the 1970s and has provided reliable service ever since. A
new head was fitted in 1989 when they became available and the engine
was fitted with a new block in 2004, since when it has covered some 7,000
miles according the 27 old MOTs on file. The current mileage is 156,000 miles as
far as we can tell.
The car has proven a ready starter and was driven
over 50 miles to the sale.
These 25/30 models offer great performance
from their 4.4-litre engines, the running gear mirroring that of the later Derby
Bentleys of the day.
The cloth upholstery looks to be original, with just
a few holes here and there in the rear and there is a tool kit under the
chauffeur's seat. The doors open and close well and the paintwork is well above
average.
Offering tremendous value for money, what a great way to drop
the kids off at school, or for popping down to the pub for Sunday
lunch...
