1990 Bentley Turbo R
Well known and documented
example run by a motoring mag for the last 22 months; lots of useful work
done showing just 54,956 miles with scope to improve some cosmetics
Supplied new by Strattons Wilmslow Ltd, Cheshire in
January 1990 this imposing Bentley Turbo R is finished in Acrylic Cobalt Blue
and sits upon its original 16” alloy wheels.
Inside, we find Parchment hide piped dark blue with dark blue dash
roll, carpets and traditional Burr Walnut trim. Furthermore, we find electric windows,
air conditioning, electric seats and column shift.
Under the bonnet lives the mammoth 6.75 litre V8 engine with single
turbo driving the rear wheels via three-speed TH400 automatic
transmission.
This Turbo R shows just 54,956
miles and is relatively well known.
Bought by Kelsey media in November 2020 for use through their various
publications charting its journey from purchase through ownership for the last
year, documenting what its like to live with and addressing various issues the
car developed using a range of parts suppliers and
specialists.
There are a range of videos on
their YouTube channel about the car and various magazine features some of which
are on file.
Works undertaken in their tenure
include a new battery and alternator belt, re-conditioned rear callipers costing
£660, steering rack, new OSF ABS sensor, spare wheel carrier, new fuel pipes and
new correct Avon tyres to name but a few of the items bought. Their total spend not including workshop
bills comes in at over £13,000 including the purchase of the car at
£9,500.
The history file includes the V5C which
shows just three former keepers, the owner’s pack and service book showing 17
stamps, the last by PJG Autos (Bentley and Rolls specialist) of Bristol in
September 2020 at 46,361 miles (It was service again during Kelsey’s tenure
too).
In addition, we also find a Bentley spec
sheet for the car, selection of bills for recent works undertaken and parts
purchase plus the current MPT valid until 21st October 2022 which
recorded no advisories.
The car presents
relatively well, but there are, as pictured some areas that would benefit from
some cosmetic attention. That aside the car seems to drive well and was driven
to us from Cheltenham without issue, although we were advised the fuel gauge
seems intermittently operable and although the LCD unit on the dash was repaired
it still shows a fault showing low coolant or other although these things appear
ok.
Buyers please note, the Bentley was
recorded Category-D in October 2002.
