Lot Ended
Description
Unique one-off kit car based on a 1968 VW Karmann Ghia; formerly
fitted with an electric engine, since removed; will also accept any air-cooled
VW engine; interesting base from which to create your own
special
First registered
in March 1968 and based on a VW Karmann Ghia donor vehicle.
Unique GRP bodywork adapted from a Charger kit car but with bespoke
front end which cost £5,000 to make, according to notes on
file.
High quality paint job which reputedly cost
£2,000 and looks great apart from a couple of scuffs on the rear left wing (as
pictured).
Please note: This car does now have a
reserve
The vendor
describes the car as follows:
“The
platform has been refurbished including new driver’s side floor and new fully
adjustable ride height front beam. It has also had a full brake
replacement, with new discs, pads, callipers to the front and new drums and
shoes and cylinders to the rear. Also replaced the copper and flexy pipes and
the master cylinder. This lot cost £3,000.
The
wheels and tyres are as new as are the wheel adapters that convert the VW stud
pattern to Ford PCD. Super Team Dynamic alloys fitted. This lot cost almost
£1,000.
MX5 seats (worn) are fitted which recline
and are on runners.
The doors latch shut
but have no keys (Ford Cortina).
The speedo
works.
Petrol tank was originally fitted to the
front but now removed. The engine mounts are retained on the chassis so fitting
an engine is a quick job if that’s the direction of
refurbishment.
The side and rear lights are LED,
cables run to the dash, but you will need a basic fuse/switch/relay
board.
This was formerly an Electric Vehicle but
all batteries and motor etc. are now removed so the vehicle now needs a VW
Beetle engine/box/tank/pump etc. or an electric motor, battery and engine
management system.
The diff and mounts are
included as are the half shafts to convert back to an EV but will need
associated motor, batteries, and engine management system. A simple conversion
if that’s what you want.
The front and rear
screen glass are both OK but new glass is standard Renault/Citroen should you
have a problem later.
Registered on the V5C as an
MEV Charger, Historic Vehicle, thus free to tax and
MOT-exempt.
Has been regularly featured in Kitcar
magazine.
If you are looking for a car that grabs
attention like a Lambo but has low cost VW running gear then look no
further!”
