1947 Austin Eight

No Reserve

Ripe for restoration this Eight has great potential and has been left untouched in a barn for years

Dating from July 1947, this late model Post-War AS1 Austin 8 has been sitting in storage in our vendor’s dry barn for many years and presents a nice opportunity for what looks to be a straightforward restoration.  The rear passenger compartment contains an array of parts and the car rolls with the might of a couple of willing volunteers.

Under the bonnet, we find a 900cc 4-cylinder side-valve engine carried over from the last of the line ‘Big 7’s’  but with higher 6.5:1 compression and a completely new chassis design.  Post War, the 8 was only built as a 4-door saloon, the Tourer and 2 door no longer produced in Britain (although Australia did carry on with the Tourer version).

No attempt has been made to try and start the car given its state and how long its been sitting and we would recommend a thorough recommission/restoration and inspection before any attempt is made. 

The history file includes the running and maintenance instruction booklet, original buff continuation log book, modern V5C showing no previous owner (although the buff log book proves this not to be the case, with the 1^st and 2^nd owner being one A. Jennings of Minsterworth, and then Slimbridge in 1971), purchase receipt dated 2000, old MOT dated 1992 at 60,451 miles and tax disc from 1972.

A nice opportunity to revive what looks to be one of around 500 Austin 8s remaining in the UK and is offered at No Reserve so the highest bid takes it away.
